Warmth for the ears
Protection on the brain.
But it’s more than just a guard against the weather,
A hat is an adjective, a statement, a picture for the wearer.
Today as I take a look about me,
There are many lovely hats I see,
Big ones and little ones,
Short ones and fat
They’re all very beautiful
And that’s a fact.
But not one of them is the adjective for me.
Mine is not among this potpourri.
o, my hat of choice is not wool or felt or straw
The hat I choose is not made from any of these things at all.
The hat I choose is tattered and torn,
And the hat I choose is easily worn.
I love this hat of choice
Because it reminds me of our three boys,
The hat I wear is a Marine’s working cover,
And I love being my three sons’ mother.
