“Who?” I asked, not sure what to expect.
“They’re singing about Jesus!”
Our son’s innocence amused us, and we told people about it. At the time I thought it was funny. But many times I’ve thought about it and have remembered that Jesus quoted Psalms when the chief priests complained about the children singing praises during His triumphal entry. “’…Out of the mouths of babes and nursing infants, You have perfected praise…’” (Matthew21:15-17)
C.S. Lewis also alluded to this concept my young son knew instinctively. Several times throughout the Chronicles of Narnia, different characters said of Aslan, “he’s not a tame lion, but he is good.”
For me, the words “religion” and “religious” is as bleak as the life of the woman in the video short called “Portal. No Escape”
But Christianity was never meant to be a cage. Christianity is mean to be lived wild and free. A person who is a Christian is meant to be in a relationship with our Creator, the one who knows us better than we know ourselves. Living a relationship with Jesus as our Lord, means we are beyond all the “you can’t do that”s that the world tries to impose on each person.
Living the Christian life, has given me the ability to live my life as I want to live it. If I am in my Father’s will, I’m in the perfect place and nothing can stop me. No one can chain me. I can do anything with the help of Jesus who gives me strength.
The Lord has given me a faith that knows that I can do anything he calls me to do. I can fly like eagles; he promised I could, I could run like a deer and he promises that those who know their God will be able to amazing things.
So, our God is wild, and as we give more and more of ourselves to him, we become wild as well. I may look and talk like a mild mannered woman, and some may even think that can manipulate me to do what they want; but looks are deceiving. I am free in the Lord Jesus and whom the Son makes free is free indeed.
Are you looking for freedom; true freedom? If you really want to be free, if you want to escape the tyranny of this world, ask Jesus to apply the payment he gave to allow you into his family. He died to pay the price for all the wrong things we've all ever done. It's not what we've done or haven't done that keeps us from being free. It's whether we let Jesus lead us. Ask him to take the lead today. It won't always be easy, but it will be the road worth traveling in the end. He'll show you how.
