My name is Coleen Frazer-Hambrick. I am the director of an upcoming Indie Film, Shots in the Dark. This is my first time as a director, and film and sound editor. My husband, John, is our director of photography.
I have never studied to be a film director, nor have I studied any other aspect of film making, so you can imagine the feelings of being overwhelmed that I feel.
People who read this may wonder what the catalyst was that got me started on this impossible project, especially since I don't know what I'm doing. I have to say that God called me to do it. There is no way I would ever venture out on my own to try this thing that is so huge.
How I knew God called me to make a movie is a long story and one that I have written about on this blog site. Among the blogs is "Challenges, Frustrations and Trials". Another is "Try and Stop Me".
I will be writing more on this Face Book page as we go through the filming of our movie.
Throughout this time of walking in faith and in allowing God to do something in me that is quite impossible without His hand, God has brought several encouraging people in my life. Among these is a man named Joel. We have talked about everything from religion and philosophy to quantum physics and the furthest reaches of outer space.
Each time I share with him some discouragement or another, he always has something helpful to say. One of the things he has told me is that when I face an obstacle, a roadblock or wall in my endeavors I must always remember that this particular challenge is preparing me for the next, bigger challenge; that without this challenge I could not face the next bigger challenge that comes.
And I know he's right. God's Word tells us,
"We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. And this hope will not lead to disappointment. Romans 5:3-5.
When I look ahead I see an insurmountable wall. When I look behind I see how high and far I've already come. Through Joel's encouragement and through the encouragement of others, I am learning that as I face these challenges, all I need is to be is obedient to the Lord. If I am obedient to Him, He will take care of the details.
