“Beep, squawk, whistle, beep” R2D2 replied.
“Well, I’m not going that way. It’s much too rocky. This way is much easier.”
So we watched these now famous robots take separate paths, and as we saw, C3P0 should have gone with R2, even though both hapless ‘droids got into alien trouble.
During this last snow my friend Melissa and I continued our habitual walk to her work and then I turn around and come home. We’ve been doing this since before I became jobless. The only difference between then and now is that I would continue on to work.
One thing I’ve noticed about walking in the snow and ice is that it’s better to walk where there’s snow even though it’s a bit harder than to walk the well-worn paths that others have made. The ice looks like it would be easier but one soon realizes that it’s much more treacherous, particularly as the sun comes out and there’s that thin covering of melted ice on the top of the still frozen ice. The snow, on the other hand, grabs your feet and reduces the opportunity to slip.
As I walked home in the snow I began to realize that walking the harder way is often the better way. Jesus himself said the way to life is narrow and hard, but the easy road is the road to hell.
The easy life is seldom the life that is best for us. I would rather walk that harder path than slowly sink into easy oblivion in the swamp of mediocrity.
Join me on the harder path. We’ll help each other along the way.
